An OTA used in some synths and in other audio devices that demanded high quality VCAs. The CA3280, originally designed by RCA, was regarded as the "Cadillac" of OTA integrated circuits; it has the best performance specifications of any OTA on the market, and was in many respects the simplest to integrate in a circuit. Accordingly, it was often the OTA of choice for high performance, low noise VCA circuits. Intersil, which inherited the design from RCA, discontinued it in 2005; new old stock has long since dried up, and the few builders and parts collectors who still have some in stock value them highly.
