A set of filters used to implement a formant, usually to simulate the frequency response properties of acoustic instruments. Fixed filter banks usually consist of 8 or so bandpass filters, which have fixed center frequencies but adjustable resonance. Fixed filter banks are most commonly found in modular synthesizers; the concept originated with Moog Music and its modular line in the 1970s.
