A computer program that allows patch data to be loaded in from a synthesizer (usually via a MIDI interface), edited graphically on the computer’s screen, and the edits sent back to the synth.A patch editor can be a big help when editing patches on a synth equipped with a clumsy menu interface. There have been synths, such as the Alesis Nanosynth and the Oberheim Matrix-1000 which for reasons of cost control and economy in packaging have been designed with no built-in editing controls at all. On these synths, a patch editor is the only way to alter patches on the synth.
