A feature of some low frequency oscillators, and other devices that cycle or repeat at low frequencies (such as delay lines). The user can tap a button or pedal several times, in time to a piece of music, and the tap tempo mechanism will average the time between taps and derive a frequency setting that will synchronize with the tempo of the music.
